SMS Terms & Opt-In Consent
The Firewalker application and website at firewalker.com are operated by Firewalker LLC. This page documents exactly what SMS messages Firewalker sends, how consent is collected, and how to get help or opt out.
1. Program
Program name: Firewalker Account Verification.
Firewalker sends exactly one kind of SMS: a one-time passcode that proves the member controls the phone number they entered. Messages are transactional only and user-initiated. Each message is sent in direct response to a request the member makes in the app. No marketing, promotional, or recurring messages are sent from this number.
Why we verify phone numbers. The passcode serves two purposes:
- Member verification for social features. Firewalker's Community and Dating features connect members with real people. Every member verifies a phone number before these features unlock. This adds an important layer of protection against fake accounts, bots, and spam by making throwaway accounts harder to create and helping keep removed bad actors from simply returning.
- Account verification and security. The same passcode confirms it is really the member when they add or change the phone number on their account, and when we need to re-verify access to the account.
We use the phone number for account verification, security, and abuse prevention. Your phone number is never shown to other members, sold, or used for marketing. SMS opt-in data and consent are not shared with third parties. Service providers may process your phone number only as necessary to deliver the verification code.
Delivery is the member's choice. Phone verification is required to access Community and Dating, but receiving text messages is not. The member may receive the code by SMS or by an automated voice call that reads it aloud. The voice call is always available, so SMS consent is never a condition of verifying or of using Firewalker.
Message frequency: one message per verification request. There is no recurring or scheduled message series.
Cost: Firewalker does not charge for these messages. Message and data rates may apply from your mobile carrier.
2. Opt-in mechanism (web form)
After creating an account and verifying their email address, a member reaches a "Verify Your Phone Number" step. The same flow also opens as a dialog when a member who skipped it later taps "Verify Phone Number" inside Community or Dating. Before the phone field, Firewalker explains why it asks for a phone number (to keep Community and Dating free of fake accounts and spam, and to confirm it is really the member when the account needs it) and states that the number is never shown to other members or sold: on the onboarding page this appears above the field, and inside Community or Dating it is the locked page shown before the dialog opens. Phone verification is required to access Community and Dating; receiving the code by SMS is not. The member types their phone number and chooses either "Send Code by Text" or "Call Me Instead." Selecting "Send Code by Text" is the SMS opt-in: the member is knowingly requesting a single text message to the number they just entered. Selecting "Call Me Instead" places an automated voice call that reads the code aloud and involves no SMS at all. The step can also be skipped; the account and the core product (habit tracking, challenges) work without a phone, and only the social features stay locked until the member returns and verifies. The following screenshots show the live phone-verification screen as it renders to a real user:
The consent disclosure shown directly beneath the phone number field reads, exactly as it appears in the application:
By selecting "Send Code by Text", you agree to receive a one-time verification code by text message from Firewalker. One message per request. Message and data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help or STOP to opt out. See our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
The screen collects consent for exactly one thing: receiving the verification code the member is requesting, by text, and only when the member selects the text option. It is not bundled with consent to marketing or to anything else, and no checkbox is involved or pre-selected.
3. Sample message
This is the message actually sent, with a sample code:
Firewalker: Your verification code is 123456. Expires in 10 minutes. Do not share this code. Reply HELP for help or STOP to opt out. Msg & data rates may apply.
4. Help and opt-out
HELP: reply HELP to any message for assistance, or visit firewalker.com/help or email [email protected].
STOP: reply STOP to any message to opt out of text messages from this number. If you opt out, you will no longer receive verification codes by text. You can still verify by choosing "Call Me Instead", or opt back in to texts by replying START.
